6 perfect home activities to not feel guilty about staying indoors

Due to lockdowns, this past year we’ve had to spend more time in the house than what we’re used to. So we’ve had to allocate that time to other activities and interests. We have been able to come up with a wide variety of minute games, crafts, and time to test new video games to entertain ourselves. We’ve always been passionate about video games, mostly online gaming since we are constantly on the move, and carrying a console with us is not a feasible option. Now we have the perfect excuse to spend more time doing these activities at home without feeling guilty about not leaving the house.

LET’S TALK ABOUT ONLINE GAMES FIRST…

There’s plenty of sites you can play on, but between loading times, paying for extra features, and boring games we are constantly looking for new platforms and options. However, the one site we always go back to is plays.org. It offers a wide variety of classics as well as refreshing new games. One of the main reasons why we prefer this site over others is that it does not have ads -doesn’t get any better than that- which allows us to game more without being pestered.

We have tried most of their games but let us tell you about the games that got us hooked. You can jump the list of our favorite games, number 5 is the winner!

OUR FAVORITE GAMES

1. Neon Invaders:

Rodrigo’s favorite. This is a stylish, neon remake of space invaders with 21st-century graphics. The biggest challenge as you progress is nursing your energy while you duke it out with swathes of enemy alien spacecraft. You get three lives to fight off the increasingly challenging fleets of galactic overlords. If you can manage to take out the blue three-eyed speedster that appears at the beginning of each round at the top you get yourself another life.  You can find some cover under three shields that slowly wear down as they get besieged by enemy fire.

2. Kingdom defense:

An electrifying RPG game where the goal is to prevent your castle walls from being ravaged by goblin invaders. Your main line of defense is a slick archer who has a solemn duty to protect the kingdom he serves. To ward off the goblins you have lightning bolts, freeze rays and meteorites that recharge every 30 seconds. You have to be strategic about when to use these powers especially as you advance in the game as you will begin to encounter stronger and/or faster aerial and ground threats. The more enemies you defeat the more points you’ll be bringing home meaning that you can upgrade your archer, fortress, arrows and previously mentioned powers.

3. The Sorcerer:

One of the most addictive games we’ve played. The goal is to group three beads of the same color to make them disappear before they continue to make their way through the path and enter the hole which is game over. When you successfully group at least three pellets together, you have some time to think your strategy until the pellets manage to link up again with those in front of them. By level 5 this game begins to get incredibly challenging as you progress level by level the pellets begin to speed up but we were hooked!

This game got us so competitive and we simply love it. The game saves your progress into all the levels so if you fall victim to the chain of pellets you can start from any level you’ve played on before.

4. Shadow world adventure:

This game takes place in an adverse scenario for the main character. The goal is to make your way through an adverse storyline by collecting a key which will unlock the next level. We had so much fun racking up points while jumping on the dwelling creatures or floating skulls as well as avoiding the falling skulls. Make sure not to fall into the abyss which will make you start over right away and keep away from the spikes.

5. Battle-Battle:

As a huge pokemon fan, I (Rodrigo) was delighted to see Battle-Battle, this game is all up to chance.

The goal is to get your pocket monster through five rounds of attacks from the rival fighter. The goal is to guess which box your enemy is using as a den and blow it up.  If you can make it to the center without getting blasted then victory is yours, otherwise, you’ll have to start from the beginning! The closer you get to the middle, the more dangerous it becomes as there are fewer boxes each round. The animation is pretty neat as it is staged in an arena filled with battle-battle enthusiasts.

OTHER ACTIVITIES WE DO AT HOME

Having said that, we also love having a variety of activities to do while at home. Mostly to get away from our computers and spend some quality time together -not that we don’t play online games together-.

1.Minute to win games

We are HUGE fans of these types of games. It all started with a themed dinner party where we hosted our friends for a game night. From there it became a tradition and our list has grown so much since.

You can find our list in our post about genius house party games. We are constantly updating it.

2. Cooking!

It is no secret we love eating, but with a tight budget eating out all the time is not an option. So what do we do? We learn new recipes all the time! We pick a dish and try to make it as close to the real thing as possible.

You can find all our recipes on our cooking page and our TikTok

3. Crafts and DIY

Manuela is a Pinterest fan. That means she will attempt most of the ideas she sees on there. Now that we have a new apartment this comes in handy since we had to decorate from scratch. We left all our things in Spain when we moved, which means more DIYs for Manu and more “hold this tight until it dries” for me.

You can learn some of our tricks on our post about how to decorate your rental apartment.

4. Training our dog

When we moved to Colombia we got our new family member, Macarena. She is the cutest but as any puppy needs some training. Luckily, now that we spend more time at home we can train her and make sure she keeps up with her new skills.

We are loving the process and spending so much time with her. We had been wishing for a dog for years and now that we have her with us, we can’t get enough of her.

5. Gardening

Plants are a big part of our lives, we used to call them our babies until we got Maca. However, we still want to have an indoor jungle at one point, which means we garden a lot! Between repotting, watering, and propagating we spend quite some time taking care of our plants and looking for new ones.

It’s an excellent hobby to have, plus it is super relaxing.

Thank you for taking some time out of your day to read our blog, we truly appreciate it. We hope these activities to do at home help you stay calm and entertained during these weird times.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions and share them with someone that might find them useful. Don’t forget to join our family and follow us on Instagram for more ideas and tips.
