Hosting parties at your house is fun, but sometimes it can feel daunting with all the planning, meal prepping, and decorations, without even mentioning the entertainment. Don’t know about you, but we also get worried that people will be bored or run out of things to talk about. That is why we love having games as the ace up our sleeve. They are a sure way to break the ice and lighten the mood, plus most of these genius house party games are hilarious and will most likely leave everyone with tears from laughter.

We have so much fun playing these games since they are not your usual party games. Now game night is a tradition with our friends and we come up with new ideas all the time, so make sure to save this list because most likely it will be updated.

What you will need

These games are for all ages depending on how you organize them.

  • Kids/teens party or themed party: make a list of appropriate/in trend/themed categories and “punishments”.
  • Adult party: all of these double as drinking games…

Most of these are “talking” games, meaning you don’t need to get anything special. However, having a whiteboard (or erasable markers to write on a window), scrap paper and pens, or dice can be useful!

These games also work for Zoom parties in case you are not allowed to leave your house because you know…2020.

Is it a question?

Pick a category or make up a scenario and go around asking questions related to that. The point is not to answer or create a conversation but to ask questions that you would ask in that situation.

Whoever fails to come up with a question or takes too long loses.

With 5 you win

You can make teams or just go around. You have 8 seconds to say 5 things related to the chosen category. Each round is a different category, you can have a bowl with ideas or just have the person before pick one.

The person who runs out of time or can’t come up with anything loses.

Number 21

Go around counting till 21. The person whose turn it is to say 21 gets to “change a number” by another number, word, move, or anything they can come up with. It can be any number, but remember that changing consecutive ones will make it harder (funnier). Restart the count after each time you make it to 21 or someone forgets the new number. Whoever forgets the new number loses.

Read my lips/moves

Like broken telephone but without making any sound. Tell the other person the phrase or movie so they can read your lips and pass on the message to the next person. You can also act out the movie or phrase.

If you have enough space to stand in line it is more fun if the rest of the players can’t see what you are doing. It also helps if each player has headphones playing loud music so they can’t hear anything and you can actually say the words.

Time!

Pick a letter and write down words that start with that letter for each category in 2 minutes.

Each player can have a piece of paper or use their phone. You can also make teams and use a whiteboard or erasable markers on a window.
