Leer en español 🇲🇽 🇨🇴

Easter is such a fun time for us, not because we are religious, but because it is the beginning of spring, there is chocolate everywhere and we get days off to travel!

We also love celebrating with family, making desserts, and decorating Easter eggs. This time we decided to mix things up and make chocolate brownie easter eggs!

They are so much fun to make and everyone will love the surprise.

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF THE EASTER EGG?

There are two sources or stories that tell us about the origin of this tradition. The first one says that the tradition started with the early Christians of Mesopotamia and from there it spread to Eastern Europe and Siberia through the Orthodox church. Later it spread to the rest of Europe through the Catholic and Protestant churches.

The second source says that the tradition started in western Europe during the Middle Ages due to the fact that Christians were not allowed to eat eggs during Lent, but were allowed to eat them during Easter.

HOW TO DECORATE EASTER EGGS?

There are many ways to decorate Easter eggs. It all depends on the type of egg you want and the materials you have at home.

The most common way to decorate them is by mixing half a cup of boiling water with 1 teaspoon of vinegar and 10-20 drops of food coloring (depending on how vibrant you want the colors). You can dip each egg for 5 minutes at a time. It is up to you if you want to color the whole egg, part of it, or mix the colors.

CHOCOLATE BROWNIE EASTER EGG RECIPE

FOR THE SHELLS

The first thing you have to do is get the shells where you will put the brownie ready.

  1. With a wine bottle opener make a hole big enough to fit the piping bag.
  2. Empty the egg and save it for later.
  3. Rinse the shells with water and soak them for about an hour in a bowl with water and salt (100 gr of salt for every 1L of water).
  4. Let them dry overnight over a clean cloth.

FOR THE BROWNIES

  1. Melt 125 gr of unsalted butter.
  2. Pour it over 200 gr of pastry chocolate. If it doesn’t melt you can put it for a few seconds in the microwave.
  3. In a different bowl mix 3L eggs or 4M ones with 200 gr of sugar till it looks homogeneous.
  4. Add the chocolate to the eggs.
  5. Add a pinch of salt.
  1. Mix 125 gr of flour and 3 tablespoons of cacao powder. Sieve them over the chocolate.
  2. Put the mix inside the piping bag to fill the eggshells.
  1. Put a little bit of sunflower oil inside the shells to coat them. This will make it easier when you peel the eggs.
  2. Fill the ¾ of the shell with the brownie mix to avoid overflow.
  3. You can put the excess batter in a baking pan.
  1. Bake them in the oven at 180º C for 20-15 minutes.
