When you stay at home for too long, you start noticing all the SMALL things. The clothes that need to be properly folded, the plants that need more light or repotting and even the pile of papers that had never bothered you before.
During this time at home, you can make your space feel more relaxing, cozy and welcoming. Since you are going to spend some time there, might as well make it a place that makes you feel good.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: WHAT RELAXES YOU?
The first thing you need to think about when you want to create a relaxing home are the things that relax you and make you feel good. A palette of colors, a smell, textures and even the brightness/warmth of the light. The following are just guidelines, making a space relaxing depends entirely on you and how you feel while you are there.
1. GET RID OF CLUTTER
It’s a constant reminder/stress that stares at you all the time. Just by having it there, it will be like a continuous stress that you don’t really need. You will think about it on the back of your mind instead of focusing on more important things and relaxing.
2. REARRANGE YOUR FURNITURE
Change things up! It might feel like a new space or you might discover how to make it bigger. It’s also a great way to get creative and have fun. You can start moving things around and see how it turns out (it can also be a workout), but if that seems too much, you can measure your furniture and plan it out on a paper of Photoshop.
All in all, an activity that becomes more than just moving things around so you can create a relaxing home.
3. THE COLOR PALETTE
Mix colors that you like or have a base and add 1 or 2 colors. Warm colors are easier to work with and will make your home feel more relaxing. For example we have white as our base and then added orange, yellow and beige to complement the wooden floors.
4. ADD PLANTS
You don’t need a jungle, but a few plants can make the difference. Having some green and life things will make your home feel alive and welcoming. Also, while you take care of your plants you can relax and take your mind off of things.
5. HAVE A SCENT
Walking into a room that smells nice is always a win and a step towards creating a relaxing home. You can put candles, use room spray, or an essential oil diffuser like this one to make your home feel relaxing. Think of smells that make you feel good and calm.
If you have dogs or pets and want to use essential oil diffusers do your research, because some oils are bad for dogs and can harm them.
6. LIGHT IT UP
Not many people thing about the light around their house, but it plays a major role when it comes to making your home feel relaxing. In order to create a relaxing home, you can also change the light. You can use smart/wifi light bulbs (they are a bit expensive so you don’t have to change all at once) to switch things up and create different feelings with colors, warmth and brightness.
But on a general sense: warm light at night is better for your eyes and your sleeping cycle. Cool and bright light is better for working (in case you like or need to work when it’s dark).
Natural light is very important! So try not to block windows or close your curtains during the day. If you have a window facing the street or your neighbors and you want your privacy, then you might want to look for some window covering contact paper/sticker. It’s a great option to “cover up” your window, but still get natural light.
7. GET A WEIGHTED BLANKET
This was a game-changer for us. We decided to invest in this blanket because we read so many articles about the benefits of a weighted blanket and now we can’t go back! We use it when watching TV, hanging out or when we want to meditate.
Creating a relaxing home is important because it’s the place where you will spend a lot of time and get your mind off of things.
During these weird times, we all need a place to make us feel good, cozy and relaxed.
Hope these tips help you and give you something to do while you have to stay home.
